A gang of thieves used a newspaper to check if a family is at home or not and then escaped with cash and jewelry worth Rs 10 lakh in Avantika phase 2 in Ghaziabad.

The incident came to light after the family returned from their trip to Vaishno Devi on Wednesday. The family includes a senior citizen, Ravindra Kumar Bansal, his wife and a daughter.

The family left their house for the trip on October 29, Saturday. When they returned, they found their home robbed with gold and silver jewellery, besides cash missing.

Ravindra Kumar Bansal said, “Upon returning, we found that the main door of the house was open and an iron mesh door in front was partly open. A newspaper was also lying in the open area outside the house. The rooms in the house were ransacked and the thieves decamped with gold and silver jewellery, besides cash. In all, we estimate the loss to be about ₹10 lakh.”
