By India Today Web Desk: BJP MP Parvesh Verma got into a scuffle with officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) who were spraying chemical on the Yamuna river ahead of Chhath Puja. In a video, the West Delhi MP is seen getting into a heated argument with the Jal Board officials, asking him to “take a dip into the river”.
The chemicals were being sprayed by the officials to clean the river. The video shows the BJP leader pointing at the barrels of chemicals near the Yamuna ghat and saying, “After eight years, you have remembered now that it (the chemical) is approved? Yahan logon ko maar rahe ho tum, aath saal mein tum isko saaf nahin kar paaye (You are killing people here, you have not been able to clean the river in eight years).”
Parvesh Verma can be heard telling the officials, “Pehle tu ismein dubki laga (First you take dip in it now).” The Jal Board official tried to explain that the chemical is approved by the US FDA, and the National Mission for Clean Ganga has also approved it. In response, the BJP MP said, “Tere sar pe daal doon yeh chemical? Tum yahan pe chemical daal rahe ho paani mein aur yahan pe log lagayenge dubki, yeh main tere sar par daal doon? Sharam nahin aati tumhein? (You will spray the chemical in the water and people will take a dip in the water. Should I pour this over your head? Are you not ashamed?).”
